Our Story

True Press is a reggae band based in Los Angeles, California, known for their progressive reggae sound and a strong focus on spreading positivity through music. The band was formed in an abandoned house in Los Angeles in 2009, where they began their musical journey by running electric cords through a neighbor's yard to power their equipment. They quickly gained attention for their unique blend of vocal harmonies and message-driven lyrics.

The band's lineup includes Pedro Villescas on vocals and rhythm guitar, Kenny Parry on drums and vocals, Johnny Lopez on bass, Pat Ruiz on lead guitar, Chris Parkhurst on keys, and Dan Kirihara on keys. True Press is distinguished by the vocal dynamics between Pedro and Kenny, supported by Johnny's fat bass lines. The band is driven by a mission to inspire listeners to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals, using their music as a medium to spread love, positivity, and inspiration.

True Press released their debut full-length album, "Anything Is Possible," on March 11, 2014. This album followed their "Sweet Reggae EP," released in the spring of 2011. "Anything Is Possible" was recorded in several studios, including Imperial Sound Studios in San Diego and 17th Street Recording Studio in Costa Mesa. The album features tracks produced by various artists, including E.N Young and Lew Richards, and it includes guest appearances from Empress Selassie and Kyle Guerrero of Vie Jester.

In addition to their studio recordings, True Press has gained acclaim for their energetic live performances. They have played at various festivals and venues like the California Roots Festival and the House of Blues, both headlining and opening for roots acts like Don Carlos, Midnite (Akae Beka), and Israel Vibration, Morgan Heritage, as well as new-generation artists like Katchafire, Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid, Stick Figure, Iya Terra, Arise Roots, and The Green. Their shows are known for good energy and a smooth flow, consistently delivering their message with no lulls or downtime, keeping the audience engaged from start to finish.

True Press embarked on their first nationwide tour, "It’s All A Jam Spring Tour 2014," with Fortunate Youth, showcasing their music across the country. This tour marked the beginning of their journey to reach fans worldwide, and they have continued to make music that resonates with audiences, emphasizing the therapeutic and soulful aspects of their sound.
